Farewell makan at Jogoya!!

My polar bear family!! I have this really annoying thing that when I see a polar bear stuffed toy being displayed in the shop, I don't have the heart to leave them there. So here's my new family. One big bear will be given to Jennifer for her farewell (the one on the left). Imagine carrying two big and a medium size polar bears in the monorail on a weekday at peak hour (5.30pm) and then waiting for RapidKL at KL Sentral. The little bits that I can do to save the polar bears in North Pole. Now more monorail and RapidKL users are aware of the existence of polar bears and can help reduce global warming so that some polar bears up there can have some ice left to stand on. LOL

Oh ya, the makan at Jogoya!! We went for the supper buffet and since it's the Merdeka month, they have a Buy 1 Free 1 promotion. The buffet started at 9.40pm and apparently there were 200 people lining up already. Luckily my buddy made a reservation, cos we (the other little buddies) only arrived at 10.45pm. Not enough time to eat LEH.

A weekend away from home

When i decided not to go back to Melaka one weekend, little did I know it would turn out like this. My friends telling me how I should adapt to not going home so often and the fact that our timetable was so packed on Friday made me decided to stay for the weekend. I signed up to go for a charity visit to a refugee camp on Saturday since my lepak gang were all away and there was no way I want to spend my weekend just studying. (seriously, that's what some people I know do.)

Had a buddy dinner on Friday night. It was the first time I actually felt part of the buddy line. Like somehow I wasn't disappointed with how things turn out anymore, I really felt I belonged to that buddy line and I would not choose another line if given a choice. Even though not everyone attended the dinner, I wished it was just like that all the time. But not everyone can get what they want right?

On Saturday, we headed to the camp for Myanmar refugees after picking up the 3 translators from UNHCR ( United Nation High Commissioner for Refugees). Since they stay hidden in a jungle on a mountain, we had a little jungle-trekking to do. It's just so sad to see how they live with bare necessities. ( At that very moment, I seriously felt deeply guilty for shopping like crazy during the Jusco Day at Midvalley a few days back. ) They couldn't even leave the jungle because if they do, they might get caught by corrupted officers who strip them naked and steal the little money they have with them that they brought to buy some groceries. And if they don't have a cent with them, they will arrest them until the refugees from the same camp fork out all their savings to collect RM500 to get the poor fella released.

It's not like they are super rich or what lah officer. Seriously, I hate how Malaysia handles corrupted people. Even the politicians are corrupted. And if the people who can do something about corruption are already corrupted themselves, who are we supposed to depend on then?

They only get work at construction sites sometimes when extra help is needed. That also they have to work illegally and accept whatever meagre income they get. No one else wants to hire them because they don't have any proper documents. They flee their country because their corrupt government wants to kill them. And now hoping to seek a new life here in Malaysia also cannot. Seriously, I don't get how this entire world works. What's so freaking wrong with accepting these refugees to be part of our community? They are honest, nice and hard-working people trying to seek a new life. Some are even educated people who even got their Masters. Instead, they are building houses from bricks because no one wants to recognise their talent.

Here we have nice people wanting to contribute to our country, but we shunt them aside. I know some of you people out there might think that they'll be a burden to the government plus they will use up the tax-payers' money. But come on lah. Not ask you build bungalow for them okay. Build small low cost flat also okay what. Now they are living under a wooden shed not even fit to be a bus stop. A bus stop actually looks more like a home compared to what they are living in now. And besides, the government can cut down all those lavish and nonsensical "jamuan" and "kenduri". Use the money for a better purpose instead of ass-licking some big-shot datuk who comes to visit your little tiny festival celebration. And the people who come and stuff their face full with the buffet served can actually afford their own buffet meal. These refugees don't even have enough for 3 meals a day. Buffet?? WTH lah wey.

After talking to them and playing with their little kids who by the way don't even get to go school, I feel so damn pissed with how the world works. One doesn't get to choose where they will be born. Why can't we just sympathise those who were just not so lucky to be born in somewhere they can live in peace? Is our country too freaking small to house a few refugees?

As the other people in the trip do what they came all the way to do, which was some basic medical check up tests ( simple blood test, blood pressure etc ), I ended up playing with the little kids. I felt no interest whatsoever in listening to Korotkoff sounds or poking their fingers. I felt more accomplished teaching the little girl how to spell simple words. She's actually very brilliant and I'm sure if someone gives her a chance to get a proper education, she can grow up to be someone respectable and contribute to our country. Instead, it'll be a never-ending poverty cycle.

Life is just so weird. I wish there's something to do about it.

of a new beginning?

I can't believe the holiday is almost over. Tomorrow will be heading back to university with Renette. It seems as though the holidays just started and I was so happy planning my holidays with a list of things to do. Which, by the way isn't even half completed. As I scrolled through Facebook, I could see some course mates updating their statuses on how eager they are to get back to university life. It just makes me wonder, why can't I feel the same?

I'm not bitter. I don't feel jealous over what they feel. It's just curiousity.

I actually dread going back there, regardless of whether it's a weekend break or a 2-month long holiday. It's not like I have an issue with studying. I actually looked forward going to school (even Form6 included, seriously i'd rather take STPM again) . Okay maybe I'm not like super excited to go to school of what, but at least the feeling isn't this bad. I feel so upset going back university that I just lock myself up in the room and watch comedies, stuffing myself with chocolates.

I figured after 1 year, people adapt. I guess I'm not one of them. The feeling that comes right before I go back there is still the same. Nothing changes, not even after a year.

Is it the environment? I guess it contributes a huge part. I grew up never bothered learning Chinese. The academic part? One of my course mate once told me that he enjoys reading medical books and feels really happy studying. Honestly, I find it a burden. The stuff they expect one to know by heart is just too much. But I understand that it's part and parcel of being a medical student. I hope the clinical aspect that will come soon can change my mind.

Happiness is subjective. I'll try to make a new beginning. Hopefully, I'll accept life as it is. Afterall, not like I can do anything now right? Let's see what life hands me tomorrow.

Doggies are from heaven :)

Join Petfinder

You can choose to be the adopter, fosterer or the rescuer! The rescuer helps stray animals and sends them to the fosterer who provides temporary care to the poor animals until the adopter adopts them!

I'm a rescuer! For my neighbourhood only lah. Helped 2 little puppies today :) Had to run away from home for awhile thanks to my parents' strict no-dogs-rule and hid in abandoned shophouses until the fosterers found me. ( I don't think my parents will ever agree to me meeting a stranger in the middle of the night. But hey, there are good people in the world. I saw some today.) The scolding that came when I got back home at night didn't even matter. I would do it again if I have to. It's all worth it.

Can being a doctor bring me this much satisfaction? Medical school needs serious reconsideration. The environment there is getting more unbearable.

I have a back-up job now :) Maybe I should be a vet.

Endings - Edited by ME

*spoilers alert*

Movies
Star Trek – Jim gets the girl he likes. Cos Spock (regardless of the weird eyebrows and pointy ears) looks scarily like Sylar (of Heroes, if you don’t watch). And Sylar reminds me of those people he killed by cutting their brains out and that is so un-hero material. So yeah, he doesn’t deserve the girl.

Terminator Salvation – John Connor dies nobly. And let Marcus Wright continue the work. Obviously, Marcus is better physically and mentally(?) since he’s a machine. So why take Marcus’ heart for John? So stupid. And how can John Connor lead the Resistance when he has to depend on anti-rejection meds for the rest of his life? And he probably has like 10 years to live after the heart transplant. But since it’s 2018, probably the medical field more advanced lah.

Korean drama
Flowers Over Boys – A Korean version of Meteor Garden. It’s been awhile since I watched Korean dramas. This time I didn’t like the 3rd party guy the most. I like the cute-guy-who-doesn’t-do-much-but-makes-the-show-nicer. Here’s the Korean version of F4. (beats the Taiwan version hands down kay!)

Here’s my cute-guy-who-doesn’t-do-much-but-makes-the-show-nicer.

(don't drool, he's mine! LOL)

Nevertheless, I still rooted for the 3rd-party-guy (I can conclude that I will not get over my 3rd-party-guy fetish anytime soon) despite knowing how it will end cos I’ve already watched the Taiwan version back when I was in Form 2? How come the 3rd-party-guy are always the nicer and better looking ones and yet they don’t get the girl in the end?

ANYWAY, the perfect ending would be Jan Di choosing Ji Hoo (3rd-party-guy) and ditch the arrogant snob - Jun Pyo. And then I make a guest appearance at the ending with cute-guy-who-doesn’t-do-much-but-makes-the-show-nicer who comes back from Switzerland.
:):):):):):):):):):)

TV Series
Grey’s Anatomy – Izzie and George survive. It’s just so sad to see Alex cry. So it’s not fair if Izzie dies.

Gossip Girl – Seriously, Dan is getting more and more annoying at the end on Season 2. It’s a good thing Serena ditched him. Chuck clones Blair so that there will be two Blairs. Cos I cannot choose who deserves Blair more – Nate or Chuck?

How I Met Your Mother – Robin ends up with Barney. Awesome. Legen-waitforit-dary. And they show Ted’s wife!! Aiyo it’s already like 88 episodes and still don’t know who Ted’s wife is.

Bones – Booth survives of course. And ends up with Dr.Brennan.

Heroes – Peter must get back his power. Yupyup.

House – House comes out from psych hosp a better person?

It’s not fair how ALL my favourite TV series end in the middle of my holidays. When the new season comes out, where got time to torrent and watch :(

Luckily I have the entire Dan Brown collection and some Sophie Kinsella’s books to keep me company. And one more korean drama - Iljimae. Zang.

Sarawak!!

Yeap, now from the big island. Was supposed to spend 3 days in Kuching but kena cut short so was only there for 1 day then fly to Sibu to spend 4 days there. I would have enjoyed the trip more if I wasn’t having sore throat and cough (not to mention, flu as well). So how I got through the airport health check was a miracle. They made me sign some agreement and I had to suck on some lozenges for that few minutes so that I won’t cough and seem perfectly normal to those health officers. Luckily never kena quarantine or else it would be a 14-day-long-holiday in Sarawak. Had to go to the clinic eventually cos every symptom of H1N1 also got – sore throat, flu, cough, nausea and fever. So so so suei. Thanks guys for bearing with me :)

How was our ex-PM involved in Miss Universe? One of the judges perhaps?
